It will have been 130 overdue years by 2010 when the 1880 Milan (Italy) Conference made a resolution to forbid sign language in all schools for the deaf around the world and to fire all deaf teachers and deaf administrators, including superintendents. Therefore, we, deaf people around the world must demand the official apology from the International Congress on the Education of the Deaf (ICED) in Vancouver, Canada, in July 2010.
I am indebted to a deaf Canadian for furnishing me with the information concerning the ICED (International Congress on the Education of the Deaf) for this blog -- the information which some DeafReaders expressed on Facebook their desire to obtain as follows:

We, Deaf signers, ARE members of a linguistic minority as well as of an ethnic minority. Therefore, it is a form of discrimination, currently known as audism, to forbid sign language. We must demand the ICED's official apology now! We must continue making a noise, so linguists will push dictionary makers to publish "audism" (noun) and "audist" (noun) and "audistic" (adjective) in Oxford English and Oxford American Dictionaries. Are we going to remain silent for another 130 years before demanding the official apology from the ICED? Many official apologies have been granted to members of ethnicities for the last 100 years. No, we must demand now.

Audism Free America has some links up re: ICED if they r of help or interest. We are all indebted to the Deaf B.C. folks and CAD for organizing this most recent effort to get an apology and the ICED Milan 1880 resolutions repealed. many have done so before but this might be the time it actually takes

Ethnical cleansing takes place in some countries. Kim Jong II of North Korea dumped deaf people near the border of China in the early 2000s. Hitler and Nazis killed deaf people in Germany in 1940s. Aristotle told the Greek government to dump deaf people in the forest some 3,000 years ago. Through a flaw in his logic, Aristotle decided that deaf people were incapable to reason just because they lacked speech.
(Italy's Renaissance mathematics - physician Geroloma Cardano, a personal friend of a Renaissance artist Leonardo da Vinci ,who had some deaf painting students, REFUTED Aristotle's theory about deaf people through whom? Through none other than his very own deaf son who could read and write through his EYES and HANDS!)
Some Christians were so unbelievably myopic. St. Augustus, Bishop of Hippo, declared that deaf people could not go to heaven because St., Paul writes in the Old Testament that to enter Heaven one must AUDIRE (to hear in Latin) the word of God.)

Many members of the ICED are hearing educators based in different European countries and Africa. What I know for a fact from my Facebook friend who is currently based in Germany is that, based on a newsletter, the conference of the ICED held in Australia in the early 2000s had declared "mistake" about the 1880 Milan Congress. For the record, the ICED has not issued a resolution of an official apology thereafter. In my personal opinion based on the declaration of "mistake" by the ICED, I think that the ICED will issue an official apology if Americans make a noise at the ICED 2010 in Vancouver. The invited speakers at the ICED 2010 include Dr. Hurwitz, Dr. Roslyn Rosen, Dr. Ronald Stern, Dr. Stephen Weiner. I hope that several NAD leaders will attend.
